I really just couldn’t get into this book. I thought the chemistry between the two main characters was pretty underwhelming and I didn’t feel like there was enough development between them or as individuals to really root for them to be honest. The dialogue between them felt more like high-school, surface level stuff than real adults who have experienced turmoil, heartbreak, and challenges. Especially considering that their two professions are a doctor and a journalist, you would think they would maybe have conversations that felt more eloquent and articulate. That’s not to say you can’t have silly, goofy conversations with those jobs, but the entire time it felt very surface. I feel like there were a lot of topics that led way for the author to go in-depth and make for some thought-provoking moments, but they never seemed to get there.
Also, that break up scene near the end made me absolutely not want to root for them to be together. Carlos’ reaction to her hesitation about saying I love you back felt very icky to me.
Unfortunately this book just fell flat for me and I’m not sure I’ll be inclined to pick up another book from this author.
