Let’s be clear the writing is not good. But the concept is good and a lot of times the book is so absurd it’s funny.
Someone definitely needed to do a better job at editing this. I had to pause at the start of ch. 2 because I thought I missed a part. There was a part in ch. 15 where a piece of information is repeated, just in a slightly different way, literally one line away from where it was said the first time. Other places were a bit clunky and could have used a once over for clarity. It honestly reads like an a/b/o fanfic from wattpad circa early 2010s.
The concept isn’t bad. Overall I liked the storyline/plot.
The characters are a bit much at times and were frequently put in absurd situations that had me laughing out loud. The men are pretty sexist. They don’t really believe that women can protect themselves or really make decisions that are in the best interest. At least one of the mmcs has the self awareness to recognize how shitty he acts. Doesn’t really change his behavior though. I can appreciate a protective man but not at the same of the fmc’s autonomy. Nice thing about Sadie is that she doesn’t really give a shit.
The sexual tension in the beginning is a bit rough. But not unbearable. Overall not bad. Certain aspects are definitely slow burn. Others not so much.
I didn’t expect the ending which is nice.
I saw a review on here that suggested the ending was transphobic. At this time I’m holding the belief that it’s not. The trope of a woman disguising herself as a man for protection of themselves or someone they love is not new. I believe this may have been a choice of protection of the character’s self. A means of hiding from someone or something. I don’t think this is meant to be a transphobic turn of events. Only time will tell.
I also saw a review here that mentioned that Sadie pukes a lot…this is true.
Overall I can’t fault the book too much. The narrators did a good job and I was able to loose myself in the silliness of it all and just enjoy it for what it is.
