 Going through my backlist TBR as I'm trying to read more from it, I saw this, listed as a gothic horror which I always appreciate (put on TBR in 2015). Consumed on kindle.

The edition I have includes several of the author's other stories, which I didn't realize, and which threw off the "% left" on my kindle, which made this book feel a lot longer than it was. I felt like I was at the apex of the story and my kindle told me I was only at 50%. It's surprising HOW discouraging this lack-of-progress felt, but I was so surprised when the book was over and my kindle said i was only 75% done with this!

Apart from that disorientation, I really enjoyed this book. It really revels in the unease and lack of power Blanche has and you feel like you're there with her, a very classic thriller in that sense. I liked that you couldn't see what she couldn't see (I.e. NOT knowing if Jane is right behind her, etc.). Would recommend.
