In The Penelopiad Atwood makes you think about what it might have been like for Penelope whilst Odysseus was off fighting and sailing round the world. Although Atwood seems to know the source material well this is a fun take that isn't taking itself to seriously and I think this really works in favour of the book. I think that this would work great as a play especially with the chorus of 12 maids who have fun interludes at the end. I also love that this is being told from the underworld in modern times so modern things can be referred to or used such as the trial for Odysseus at the end. All in all it was a fun quick read that I really enjoyed.
