This is one of my favorite books of all time! Sweetly romantic, which is rather rare for a book written from a male character's perspective, and almost magical! If you really allow yourself to think about it, the events of the book are pretty unrealistic, and the back story behind Mikhail is a bit tedious, but the way everything is fitted together, along with the action that pushes the plot along, is why this book deserves 5 stars. The ending made me cry, but I've voraciously read this book over and over, and I hope to add it to my collection of books soon so I don't have to keep waiting for it to be available at the library! I've come to love Gothic literature, and I can't wait to read the rest of Zafon's books.
