First time I read this I didn't like it that much, but returning to this several years post-DAI coming out I actually think this is an excellent example of a video game tie in book.
Whether or not people should have to go elsewhere than the game for more info that makes the game itself satisfying (enough) is up in the air but I know enough about both book writing and video game writing/how video games are made and the differences between them now that I'm still impressed that they managed what they ended up with (although you can really tell Gaider does more video game writing than novel writing but that's ok for me tbh).
