Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
4.0
hopeful mysterious reflective medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

Not what I was expecting, in a good way.
There were areas that I think could have benefited from more development, but for the length and what it contained in it it was good.
Mystery that you figure out with the MC, and super interesting world. The House is not a horror, more fantastical mystery, so it’s enjoyable going through and discovering new things about it.
If you’re someone who wants every detail answered and explained etc this is not for you
I would argue that a central character in this book is the House and nothing about it is really answered, like you know some of what it contains and it’s limitlessness but how much sentience and control it really has is up to interpretation, along with what it even is in the first place, like is it another world, is it even real? Who knows all I know is that the beauty of the House is immeasurable; it’s kindness infinite

The type of book that I think you could do a deeper analysis on, but I don’t want to, it was enjoyable as is
I like how the missing memories was handled as well as trauma, the focus was not “getting memories back to fix him” but understanding what happened and acknowledging the past but also the person he is now, this book would have been very different if not for the MC and I think the reading experience was so enjoyable because he is who is

While not a happy book I found it comforting
