Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson

  • Loveable characters? It's complicated

Like it was fine I guess?

Okay the first half was a bit of a slog to get through. The main character is incredibly hard to like at first. Only about halfway through when
alif trapped in the mosque and later captured and tortured by the Hand do things pick up and start to get interesting.

I honestly really enjoyed the second half of the book. I do felt like there were a lot of loose ends that were forgotten about.
like what happened with Alifs mother? Dina's family? We see Alif begin to rethink his sexist worldview while being tortured but after he doesn't give a spare thought to his mother? Like they're going home that's fine but I'm surprised even Dina didn't bring up hoping her family is okay?
