Loving Mr. Daniels by Brittainy C. Cherry
3.0

3.5 STARS

I get why people like this book. I gave it 3 1/2 stars so I must have enjoyed it somewhat, and I did. I thought the story started out really strong. I felt Ashlyn's (brownie points on the name choice) grief, and I felt the initial connection between Ashlyn and Daniel before they discovered their "circumstances." After they realized their formal relationship - teacher and student - that's when things started to fall apart for me. Ashlyn and Daniel fell in love way too fast for me, so much so that I lost the initial spark that I felt between them, and eventually didn't care about investing my emotions into their relationship. Yet, that's the whole purpose of the story. I did enjoy Ryan's character the most in this story, and his ultimate fate left me heartbroken. I love the author's prose, and that alone is enough to get me to read the author's other book Art & Soul. Basically, if the two characters wouldn't have fallen in love so fast this would have been more enjoyable for me. But that's a me thing because some people like insta-love *cringes.* On the other hand, I did love the last chapter of this book and the epilogue, hooray for happily ever afters. Oh, and I also loved Gabby's letters, especially the last one to Daniel! Gabby was actually one of my favorite characters also, despite the fact that she was not actually ever in the book, I felt her presence in Ashlyn's life.
Although I didn't necessarily love it, this book was a great way to start off 2016.
Definitely check this book out if you're a fan of Colleen Hoover, specifically Slammed !
