Dystopian is a genre that I hardly reach for due to the fact that most stories do not peek my interest however and Ember In the Ashes was particular in that it premise wasn’t particularly Dystopian BUT more fantasy with elements of the former genre; so I picked it and
It is brilliant in EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD.
The world felt fleshed out and lush but also suffocating and hot when at Black Cliff- it was refreshing to feel in thick of the heat and the changing atmosphere’s did not hinder my enjoyment as they flowed seamlessly.
The Characters are all very well rounded with distinct personalities. Elias, Laia, Helene and the villains were all characters that I thoroughly enjoyed. The Commandment and the minor villains felt very real and every scene the Commandment just held me at the page.
Elias was my fave character as he was a change from the stereotypical hero but I enjoyed his emotional journey, both with his mother and finally being able to achieve a small dream.
The blooming romance between Laia and Elias was one of the best aspects of this books from the dance scene to the talking scene was brilliant.
I also enjoyed the secondary characters as they helped give backstory to certain organizations and characters.
I would highly recommend anyone to check this book out.
