A Pack for Winter by Eliana Lee
5.0

This was absolutely brilliant, one of the best omegaverse novellas in recent times. So much to love with the characters, their growth arcs through the story, the intimacy of the Starlight Grove setting, the familiarity of the community and ...the spice will make you sweat.

Ivy is a self-doubting, not very confident omega who hasn't been dealt the kindest hand with past relationships. She's a bit of a doormat and tends to prioritize everyone else UNTIL, she meets her pack of Rome, James and Logan - and she learns the importance of saving herself, as well as leaning on others and standing up for herself in the process.

The MCs were so attractive and well-written. We got enough background, so we were engaged, but the story was really focused on how the relationship between them develops and how the pack comes together. I loved that the plot was simple and straightforward, but seeing how they come together to support and help her, really stole my heart. There were a couple of moments where I got annoyed with how much of a martyr Ivy was being, to the point of alienating and hurting her pack, but I guess that's part of the learning curve for her character.

The small town background was an incredible setting for the story. It felt so comfortable and poignant - like a warm bubble in which the relationship was encased and encouraged to grow. I kept imagining the town from Gilmore Girls and how everyone knows everyone, but is also in everyone's business.

Lastly - there is a lot of diversity representation, which is so important and I loved seeing. There is the obvious ethnic representations, but also a plus size alpha MC, neurodivergent students etc It just added so much color & texture to the narrative.

I will be honest - I read the author's debut novel, The Scent of Us, and liked it but didn't love it. So I was reluctant to pick this one up but I'm so glad I did because this a total winner, in my books. Highly HIGHLY recommend.
