Catch Her When She Falls by Allison Buccola

2.0

"Ten years ago my boyfriend killed my best friend."

The first line on the jacket of this book really hooked me. I was ready to dive into this mystery and find out the truth but I was just disappointed.

The book follows the main character Micah in 3 different timelines which shift quite jarringly at times. The different timelines also come off a bit rambly at times making me what to yell "get to the point!" especially since it usually comes after an abrupt shift to a new timeline at a point when I had just got invested in the current one.

Stylistically, I found the sections where she was she was "talking" to Joshua to be irritating, but that may be due to the main character herself.

After 72 pages, I decided I couldn't take this book any longer and skipped ahead to find out what really did happen to Emily.
Spoiler I did enjoy the twist that Emily had actually tried to injury herself so she wouldn't have to dance anymore and that it was her brother trying to stop her that actually caused her death.

I give the book 2.5 stars out of 5, was an interesting concept but lacking in its execution.
