The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

5.0

Premise- (5/5) I LOVE the premise of this book. I love a good murder mystery in general, and this one promised to be interesting right from the start.
Characters- (5/5) I think the characters are especially well done in this book because Raskin manages to write so MANY characters and still make them all so different. I liked all the characters, if only because they were all interesting and all had their own quirks and secrets and personalities. The characters were well crafted and so wonderfully diverse.
Plot- (5/5) This book kept me guessing and laughing and the plot was great. As I said above, I love a good murder mystery, and this one was so well done. I loved trying to figure out the clues for myself (though I can't say I was all that successful...) and I loved the continuous surprises. Everything fit together so well and made so much sense and it was totally one of those books where as soon as they revealed it you were like 'OF COURSE THAT'S BRILLIANT WHY DIDN'T I REALIZE THAT'
Writing- (5/5) There is something about Raskin's style that I really love. She does a great job bringing the story to life. The characters are realistic and quirky, the plot is well thought out and expertly woven.
Overall- (5/5) I absolutely love this book. I was first introduced to it in fourth grade when my teacher read it out loud to our class. I didn't understand all of it then, but I liked it. When I read it again later I realized just how amazing it really was. Possibly my favorite mystery book ever. For sure a favorite mystery book.
