Literary zombie fiction is pretty rare. The story was compelling, but the writing felt like a weird hybrid of Cormac McCarthy and a western. Like The Road, There was no punctuation except for periods and commas. Not sure why the post-apocalyptic survivors always seem to lose the ability to punctuate, but at least words were spelled correctly (I'm looking at you, Blood Red Road). The plot line of Temple being tracked by Mose so he could get vengeance felt very much like a western to me. I found myself thinking of the zombies as "high plains drifters" (a term used in Rot and Ruin, a fantastic YA zombie series). By the end, so much had happened between these characters that it it felt a bit like a plot convenience that he was so determined to follow through.

Overall a quick, entertaining read.
