I think this story would have been way better if Elena wasn't such a flat character. I really didn't like the way she and Stefan became a couple... she was selfish and treated Matt like crap, and she knew absolutely nothing about Stefan, only that she wanted him. I don't buy the beginning of their love story. Dumb. The second book was better after they were a little more established. I still think there's not a lot of substance to their relationship, though.
