Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
3.0

Whew! I finally finished this book after 16 1/2 months!

Despite the sheer length and density of the book, I am really glad I stuck it out. I think I would have to read the book multiple times to really take in all of the history, social commentary, philosophies, etc. put forth, but this is exactly some of the content that bogged me down in the first place. Nevertheless, there were many aspects that I really enjoyed. Tolstoy's character development was amazing, and I felt like I really knew some of the characters by the end (though not necessarily liked). Tolstoy has a true knack for characterization and presenting each person's complex feelings, emotions, and personality.

I will say that it was quite hard not be extremely annoyed by both Anna and Kitty's fits of jealousy every other chapter. This selfishness on their part made me look down on them in some ways..though I guess that accurately depicts a part of life, a true symptom of love for some individuals.
