I want to preface by saying that I do not read many romance books but I saw many raves about this one and wanted to step outside of my comfort zone. I will also say that I read this in one sitting, so obviously I was drawn in.

The writing and characters are fresh, although there are many pop culture buzz words and references in it that beg me to wonder as a Midwesterner if that is just how people in LA talk or if it actually was a bit over the top at times.

I thought that the plot and characters were very well written and exciting...except for some of the flashbacks and when we finally flesh out their entire teenage 'love story'. I think that part of the story was maybe forced and pushed to be as dramatic and intense as it was for the sake of it all happening in seven days to fit with the book's main parallels.

I do not believe two traumatized teenagers getting together in a house and making their way through a drug stash constitutes love or the type of history that the present day characters would need to fuel their years of yearning for each other. I wish that part was taken a different direction. Especially for the amount that people are raving about this book, I found myself surprised that that was the main spark of 'love' in this book that ties the rest together.
