Black Sunshine
by Karina Halle
WARNING: MILD SPOLIERS AHEAD!
I'm ashamed to say it took me a while to get into this book. In the beginning I feel like you are kinda thrust into the story in the middle of something happening without much backstory into the plot. This could be fine for some people but for me it threw me off. Without stories giving something to the reader to hold on to I feel as if the story is lost to me. However, after finally pushing myself to finally read past the first chapter it was... interesting.
One thing I want to note is that, I find it interesting that this book was originally meant to be a standalone. I thought there were many topics and plot points in this world that still needed to be answered at the end of the book. After being thrusted (pun not intended) into the life of Lenore and listening to some backstories into some of the characters, I felt like this book wasn't fully completed to make this a standalone. I enjoyed the story at times, especially times with Solon and Lenore (*wink wink) but I felt like I was missing something. I want to learn more about the Guild and the Black Sunshine and the different aspects of the supernatural. I want to see with things go (or don't go) with Wolf and Amethyst. I want to understand the world better and just one book won't be enough, in my opinion.
Something else I want to mention, this book is very... sexy, if you couldn't figure it out. Very graphic (which I'm very much fine with) but I know there are some people not okay with the M/F/M scene in the book. I understand where they are coming from and I know it isn't for everyone but for me, personally, I didn't mind it (don't tell my Mom). If anything, I wanted more interaction with everything involved. I understand that it might have been cut short due to the nature of it (there is a warning about it in the beginning of the book) but it is very mild and doesn't go too much into it.
All in all, I would love for there to be more of this world if possible and more detail. I want the backstories and the histories that come with the broken parts. I want to see this world more developed.
