Falling Hard for the Royal Guard by Megan Clawson
4.0
This is Megan Clawson’s debut novel and it’s beautiful. Rich in historical facts and stories, she engages the reader to learn more about London. She herself has lived in the palace that is The Tower of London. I have never been but it’s now on my bucket list! I learned so many new things from this book and her second book, Love at First Knight.
One thing I know for sure is I’ll be eagerly looking out for all of Clawson’s future books!!
I gave this book 4 stars because the ending was a little too tidy- with the couple pairings. And because I didn’t like reading too many of the first Tinder dates because I felt they added so little to the story. Freddie makes for a lovely and gorgeous book boyfriend. All of his characteristics and actions were so sweet. And Maggie is so warm and wonderful that the reader quickly becomes so protective of her. In her other book we feel proud of the main character and Maggie evokes similar feelings of someone who deserves the world.
Grief and loss are also themes in this book as well as discovering oneself. I felt there needed to be a moment where Maggie saw her beauty and was called beautiful by anyone. It just never happened and it was so needed!!! I feel it could have done something for her body dysmorphia. She was constantly seeing the love interests as out of her league and possessing a Roman-esque beauty and she doubted her own.
