Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

3.0

I really struggled getting through this book. I feel like Bradbury wrote nearly all this book with what I’ll call “feverish poetry” because I’m having a hard time coming up with an efficient way to describe the style of writing. I feel like the story and plot itself could be clearly explained in 10 min, but the book itself takes much much longer than that to read simply because of all this “feverish poetry.” That being said, I can still respect it. It really is a story that everyone 1950 and forward can relate to. Only near the end of finishing the book did I look up why it was ever banned from any shelves, and supposedly it was an effort to censor graphic content. Fair. There is really graphic content. Which did leave me wondering…what is the appropriate age, maturity level, and level of understanding the world does one need to be before reading this book? Food for thought. I’m glad I read it, but I don’t think I’ll ever read it again in it’s original form. The story is compelling, thought provoking, and worth revisiting — but for me, not in the original form now that I’ve read the source. A summary of the plot is probably sufficient.
