The Wish by Nicholas Sparks

4.0

Wow, where do I even begin! I'm already a fan of Nicholas Sparks' work, but I think this one topped my favorites! I mean, I love reading books about travelling or self discovery, but when you combined it together with Nicholas Sparks' writing technique it's *chef's kiss*.  It's a beautiful emotional, heart wrenching yet heartfelt story and yes, you may feel a bit teary while reading, (I certainly did) it's helpful if you have a box of tissues next to you. There are sensitive topics mentioned in this book; topics where we would rather not talk about, avoid addressing it as much as we can such as death or dying and cancer/terminal illness. Yet with Nicholas Sparks' unique and remarkable storytelling skills he addressed these topics so gracefully. And from the work I read so far, I ended up falling in love with the storyline from the first few chapters. The transitions from past to present flowed amazingly. I really enjoyed seeing the heroine, Maggie in both timelines, as she went from a teenager to adulthood. The power of family dynamics and friendship played a major role in this book. I absolutely adored Aunt Linda! She's definitely a great character! I just wished to see more of her backstory. And Bryce, ahh he had my heart from the moment he came into the story.

Maggie is a successful photographer; she travelled to far away destinations for her work. She also co-owns a gallery, display all of her work. Maggie prefers not to talk about herself, especially regarding her health. Maggie is sick; her health is deteriorating every day.  Her new gallery assistant Mark amazingly fit into his new role so quickly; he's great at what his does. Even though he's curious about his new boss, he doesn't ask any questions. As Maggie begins to feel more at ease around Mark, she finds herself opening up forming a kinship with him. And she begins to tell her story. A story that she hasn't told anyone for more than two decades. A story when she had found her true love, Bryce during her most difficult time but it wasn't just their time to be together. Bryce ignited her passion and love for photography. 16 year's old Maggie was shipped off to live with her Aunt Linda in Ocracoke, North Carolina. Isolated and feeling alone on an island, with no one to talk to Maggie is counting the days until she gets back home. Then Bryce suddenly comes into her life; a person she didn't realize she desperately needed in her life.
