This book is to samurai and the real historical Musashi, who we know very little about, what Sherlock Holmes is to real detective work. That being said, I didn't hate it, and this book seems mark the start of the romanticisation by the Japanese of their now extinct warrior class, a phase all cultures seem to go through as they abandon the old ways and embrace modernity.
