Lords of Mercy by Angel Lawson, Samantha Rue

Hmmm. So. That was an interesting partial end to a series (looking like we're done with these characters stories but we're going to get more books from the same world). This last book we definitely got the most I dunno if you want to call it character development or honestly just complete character behavior changes. All three MMC basically go from sadistic lying manipulative abusers, to obsessive, in love, doting boyfriends. It's a HUGE change. I get a lot of it is the men somewhat working thru their issues and growing, but it's a rapid change.

We do get conclusions to plot points, the Ted stalker twist I didn't fully see coming. And we got basically a massive epilogue, which I found very meh. I don't normally mind those kinds of epilogues, but given the history of the book and the characters, and also the fact it was the entire last 100 pages of the book, I just feel like it didn't fit the story.

I dunno. I have mixed feelings about this book. The plot basis isn't bad. And like I've said before, I don't mind darker romances with taboo topics (I really enjoyed Haunting Adeline), but this series for me just pushed my boundaries a little too much. Like I've said before, there was a huge amount of grooming to be honest, and I'm not into that. I hate when characters are written underage. And the amount of misogyny in the books. So much focus on virginity and purity, and if a woman wasn't that then she was a whore. And if she used her body or sexuality she was worthless. And the FMC was constantly told that and belittled and abused and I feel like she never really took charge and fought back against that. Like she stood up and said something maybe once or twice. But It was something I felt never got fully resolved and just kinda got glazed over. Like the men just stopped being they way but they never were like "yeah we were wrong, we're assholes, women are not like that".

I'm not sure if I'm gonna keep reading into the series. I read the blurb at the end of this book that leads into the next, and I'm kinda curious. The FMC already seems to have a little more of a backbone, and I don't feel like we're gonna get the grooming aspect, which might make it more tolerable.
