The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

5.0

I'm studying for my law bar exam and I've chosen to re-read The Raven Cycle for the 3rd time in under 8 months. Because at the end of these crazy, hectic, exhausting, overwhelming days, Mrs. Stiefvater's prose revitalizes me and Gansey's court inspires me.

It's funny... the first time around, it was all about the Mirror; the reflector, the amplifier, the tir e e'lintes.
In the second round, I was deeply struck by the Greywaren; the dreamer, the heart attack that never stops.
But today I find myself channeling the Magician; the puzzle, the student, the logician. When Adam Parrish makes the bargain with Cabeswater to wake the ley line ("I will be your hands. I will be your eyes."), it reminds me of all the sacrifices I've made so the Law can live through me.

If it sounds a little fanciful or like classic escapism, that's because it is. And it's saving my fucking life during these 10-hour daily study sessions. I'm drawing ley lines in the margin of my briefs and reviews, dreaming about how when all of this is over "we will be kings."

Trees in my eyes, stars in my heart.
