The Lions of Fifth Avenue by Fiona Davis
2.0

I wanted to love this book. The setting, the history, the mystery, and timeline. It seemed like it would be something Id love. It wasn’t.
The dual timelines weren’t needed. Either timeline could have been a story on its own that allowed for an opportunity to tell a more thorough story with characters that were more developed. Because the dial timelines took away from the character and story development I felt I was left with a lackluster book.
The attempts to cram tidbits of NYC into the story felt like filler. Adding CBGB’s into the story felt like an attempt to fill with more history. It actually didn’t add to the character given there was no other reference to listening to music.
The choices of the lead characters felt harsh and almost unrealistic to me. That could be entirely on me and my perspective but both of the decisions made by the characters (and even supporting ones) were hard to reconcile. A family in NYC that doesn’t thoroughly vet someone caring for their kids? nah.
I gave a star because the attempted storylines were good and the writing was good. It just didn’t get executed well.
