Mark of the Demon by Diana Rowland
2.0

Mark of the Demon, or as I called it, the Clueless Detective, had a lot of potential. The concept of how a summoner works, while not necessarily novel, was well executed. Unfortunately there were enough fundamental flaws in the book I never was able to truly enjoy it.

The second largest flaw was that Kara, who is supposed to be a great investigator, routinely fails to string 1 and 1 together and misses obvious correlations. I don't expect that the protagonist is going to be smarter than me and I recognize that as a reader I will jump to conclusions based on genre tropes but...when obvious alignments of timing are completely ignored I lose my patience.

The biggest issue I had is:
Spoiler
When the Demon Prince Rhyzkahl is initially summoned his intent was to rape Kara. Yet, somehow, Kara is able to overlook this and still entertain fantasies about him as well as being open to his moral nature. Sorry, that's just broken and I'm shocked that so many female woman seem to be ok with that.

So, no more in the series for me.
