The Cat's Table
by Michael Ondaatje
Loved this story and the writing. The narrator is a young boy from Sri Lanka who travels alone by ship to England, and befriends two other boys and numerous other fascinating travelers. I immersed myself in the story and characters, so it took a while to realize that there was underlying mystery and intrigue afoot. Loved the intertwining the adult perspective looking back, and the glimpse of what happened later, but was most taken with the beautifully presented worldview of the narrator as a boy.
