Awesome fantasy! The magic system in this series is really cool; I loved the cards, mist, infection, etc. The plot is really good and the story isn’t too twisted to where it gets so far fetched and annoying. I didn’t mind all the riddles in the story but have heard this is an area of contention for some. The only thing that did annoy me was the repeat of sentences within the riddles. Personally, I didn’t find the repeat necessary just to have some kind of rhyme. I loved the gradual breakdown of each card and their two sides throughout the story. I knew Elspeth and Raven would get together from the jump and enjoyed the build up of their budding romance. The “spicy” scenes were not spicy at all, this is definitely very YA in that regard. Some of the story is predictable but it didn’t sway me when anything came to fruition. You get left on a major cliffhanger! So please be prepared and have the second book in tow to dive right in because you will definitely want to!
