the main character's life is upended when her "uncle" dies and sends her on one last scavenger hunt, where she finds out why disappeared from her life at 12 years old + the reason for the weird relationship between her mother and uncle. 

It turns out MC is actually the daughter of the uncle. He was too distraught with grief of the passing of her mother to take care of the baby. He left the baby with his sister and brother-in-law. Finally after a few months, the sister / BIL forced a decision, was he going to take care of her or not, but he thought the daughter was better off with his sister and they never told the MC - who her biological mom was. 

The "uncle" also left her the bookstore, that was her bio mom's. She upends her whole life to try and keep the bookstore running.
