Hell Hound
by Ken Greenhall
3.5
This isn’t the demonic killer dog story the wonderfully lurid cover would have you believe, it’s more understated. Baxter is more of a force of neutral evil who upsets the lives of those around him. His inner dog-monologue is uncomfortably misanthropic, and disquieting misanthropy is what the book excels at. This feels a little scant, but I don’t know how I’d suggest making it longer without it overstaying its welcome. Definitely one of the more unconventional horror novels I’ve read, but in a good way.
