This was one of the first books I ever downloaded on Kindle Unlimited (KU) when I got my Kindle as a birthday gift last year and I've only now read it. I am a SUCKER for boarding school romance media and I knew I'd eat this up. I really had no problems with it and I contemplated giving it five stars, but then I reflected and realized by the end of the year I don't know if I'd think about it as much as my other five-star reads.
Isobel's life is in shambles. After her best friend and boyfriend get together, her mom's cafe is not doing too hot, and realizing she's going to have to spend her last year of high school with no friends; she's not doing too hot. That is until Isobel gets the opportunity to meet her father finally. What she doesn't know is she's a LaFluer, and with that name comes a lot of opportunities and cash. Although she's upset with him for being absent all these years, he offers her a deal: Spend your last year of high school at the prestigious private school Weybridge Academy and he'll pay for her entire college tuition. DEAL! His only request is she stays far away from a boy named Noah Hastings. Being the new girl that just came from rags to riches is far from easy and it's even harder to stay away from Noah when he's all she sees.
This was just cliche fun! I read the reviews prior to writing this and I can understand why this is rated so low, but did the cover and synopsis not give off the exact vibes you're all complaining about? Yes, it reads very YA, very cliche, and very 'Wattpad', but that's exactly what I wanted! This was just heaps of fun and drama. Isobel kept getting caught up in lies that quite frankly didn't need to happen, but just created more drama for herself. I loved the romance because Noah is such a sweetheart! I LOVEEEE when the hardened popular boy goes soft for his girl.
The ending made me IMMEDIATELY download book two and I will definitely be purchasing this series physically! I honestly think it's really great for what it is and doesn't deserve the bad ratings. Yes, the writing isn't the next Jane Austen, and yes the tropes, lines, and cliches have been done before, but don't fix what isn't broken, yeah?
