if you liked queen of the tearling you’ll like this. equal parts multifaceted imperfect female protagonist, interesting political tension, and captivating worldbuilding and lore. i was pleasantly surprised with the direction the romance(s) took, in that they were not the focus of the book and actually turned out to be tragic plot points rather than the entire theme of the book. i’m in love with elisa as a narrator and her development is so satisfying. again, it’s extremely similar to queen of the tearling so far (which is awesome cuz i love that series) so i’m super excited to read the sequel. the magic system didn’t make much sense to me but hopefully it’ll be explained more in future installments. i’d also like to see more of cosmè and learn more about elisa’s early life. my favorite parts involved elisa strategizing about war techniques and learning about the godstone’s history so i hope the next book has lots of that too!!
