It took me a little while to get into this one, but it was ultimately a pleasant, lighthearted read. Manages to be funny and endearing, while exploring some pretty heavy subject matter. Explores themes such as single parenthood, human vulnerability and connection. By the end of the novel, it's clear that Marcus and Will have evolved together. Through their unlikely friendship, Will adopts Marcus' childlike vulnerability to forge more meaningful connections, and Marcus builds a tougher exterior to better fit in with his peers.
