The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea
by Axie Oh
I did love this book. I love concepts of girls throwing themselves in the line of peril for their loved ones and holding fast to their principles. And an angsty love interest lol.
The pacing for scenes was quite fast, but it's a standalone novel so it's bound to fit a whole large narrative into one book using a few quick movements here and there. It mostly feels too fast during scenes with little intense action, where she's doing more mundane tasks and it doesn't describe the actions each character does in the scene, only detailing the beautiful clothes. Or it comes out in how rapid plot points move between each other and skip over time in her one month in the spirit world.
I cried a few times reading this though. The spirits and connections to family and friends really got to me lmao. You can really feel the joy in existence when Mina describes her feelings running through the world and feeling all the gods - large and small - around her. Brought tingles to my skin thinking about it.
Great read and i'd love to see more of what Oh has to offer in her other books!
