Black Hammer Volume 1: Secret Origins
by Jeff Lemire
4.5 stars. I am a sucker for exactly this type of book: a slow burn shrouded in mystery with some compelling hook of an unusual setting.
These first six issues of Black Hammer were great, I read it all in one sitting. It's a slice of life mystery following a small band of ex-superheroes who ten years ago were suddenly transported and permanently trapped in a small rural town. They're trying to keep it together, but things might finally be shifting to explain where they are and how they got there...
I will definitely have to pick up the second volume some time, this was a great read. Definitely recommend if you're into slow-burn, character-driven mysteries. Teensy content warning if mild sexual content or profanity bother you, I guess.
