No Hard Feelings: The Secret Power of Embracing Emotions at Work by Mollie West Duffy, Liz Fosslien

emotional informative fast-paced

4.0

I was recommended this book by a friend and I quite enjoyed it. It was a pretty breezy read - the illustrations are fun and relevant, entertained with easy to read writing and some interesting studies. I don’t think anything suggested in the book was necessarily groundbreaking, but it gave some great examples and options for when you feel emotional at work. My favorite chapter was the chapter on Motivation, which explores the 4 things you need in your job to feel motivated: meaning, autonomy, learning and a good team. One critique that I have is that sometimes I felt that the authors would throw an interesting statistic into the chapter summary, that you found no where else in the chapter. I wouldn’t really call that a summary. This was definitely a broad overview of emotions in the workplace, but a nice and well-reasoned book. I would recommend to others.
