Late to the Party by Kelly Quindlen

3.0

Your typical summer break high school romance, only with queer kids, which I respect. It nails the feeling of the introverted queer teens that drift to each other and become friends. The supporting cast was fun and diverse, but not good enough to distract from the main character and her love interest, two characters blander than unbuttered toast.
If you don't enjoy the miscommunication trope, don't read this. Seriously. All romcoms have this part near the end where the main character and her best friends fight and it's all uncomfortable till they resolve it. In this book, it's like that trope is the whole entire book. Everyone was a terrible friend from beginning to end. I didn't like that.

I'm writing this review at 2 am, straight after finishing it, and I think it shows. Anyway, a generous 3 stars from me.
