The Hunchback of Notre-Dame
by Victor Hugo
Argh. I decided to read the book after having viewed three different versions of the movie this summer. Because all the movie plots were different, I wanted to see what the actual story was.
The first part of the book was slow going, a lot of descriptions of Paris and Notre Dame itself. Some of the descriptions were interesting but it got long after awhile. I just wanted the story to continue! Surprisingly, I finished the entire book in 5 days. Once I passed the 150 page mark, I just kept reading to see how it ended.
But argh, the ending!! I can't say anything because I don't want to spoil it for anyone but I was unhappy! It was bittersweet. Very different from ANY of the movie versions I've seen. Completely unexpected. Now I have to watch the remaining versions and see if anyone actually got the ending correct...
