The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra
by Vaseem Khan
Rounding up from 2.5 stars
Inspector Chopra from the Mumbai police department is recently retired due to heart issues and simultaneously inherits a baby elephant from his uncle. Chopra decides to continue to investigate the death of a young man, despite his retirement and being warned off by fellow law enforcement officers.
While the cultural aspect was interesting, the overwhelming corruption in many aspects of Mumbai life was depressing, as was Chopra's dismissal of his wife's attention and feelings for the majority of the book. Chopra also makes multiple - and major - police procedural errors which could have resulted in serious consequences if not for luck.
The scenes with Ganesh, the baby elephant, were cute, but not cute enough for me to continue with this series.
