This started so strong--I thought it was going to be a new favorite of mine, but then it just lost its luster about halfway through, and I was mostly just becoming more and more disappointed.
The covid plotline was so unnecessary. The author could have left it out entirely, the plot wouldn't change, and it would have been a much better story. We all lived through it, no need to remind us again...
I also found Claire's backstory to be underwhelming. It was just kind of ~there~ and took time away from her time in the paintings with Jean. If the author rewrote this book and made it only about their love story inside the paintings, I think it would have easily become one of my favorite books.
The more I think about it, the more disappointed I become.
