This book is a series of character studies and a philosophical debate very loosely wrapped around an underdeveloped plot. As a thought experiment, it’s fascinating, and the prose The uneven pacing, sketchy world building and myopically self-absorbed characters leave a lot to be desired, though.
It’s a frustrating book because it has so much potential—you can *see* the great book it wants to be—but it never quite gets there. And I don’t think I want to read 800 more pages of the same.
