I was a little nervous going into this because I'm not a huge fan of historical fiction...but I really enjoyed reading this! The pacing was really well done - it was a little difficult to get through the first chapter since it was so long, but once I was hooked, I finished this in a single day! The ensemble of characters Herold created as ghost hunting scientists was so fun and entertaining to read about. I loved the friendship between Sarah and Annabelle, and the comradery - and even tension at times - between the rest of the team. The mystery aspect when they were investigating the Hutchinson house was intriguing, because I found myself guessing along with the characters!

The background chapter on Nigel's time in the war was good insight to the character, but it did remove me from the rest of the story a bit. I also wish there would have been more focus on Sarah as she was connecting with the ghosts in the Hutchinson house. However, we were probably left in the dark with that aspect to help with the plot twist!

Overall, this story was honestly a lot more enjoyable than I expected (again, not a huge fan of historical fiction)! I'm excited to read the next two books in the series!
