Classic KSR book. You’ve got some stern sexless women in positions of authority, a smattering of people of Slavic origin, various exes begrudgingly playing useful roles in the plot, some anxious young men, pages of fiscal policy and engineering marvels, and vaguely third person omniscient poetic unknown narrator chapters that I kinda skim through. Creative, interesting, like an early precursor to Ministry for the Future. I’d skip this one and go straight for MFTF, or read the Mars trilogy for something that has all of the above but in a more different setting.
