Cat's Eye
by Margaret Atwood
Very loosely, "Cat's Eye" is about childhood bullying/abuse, and the dark side of female friendship. I would say that one of the most important themes, to me however, is the idea that in order to come to terms with one's present, one must come to terms with the past. While I did not always agree with Atwood's portrayal of gender politics here, "Cat's Eye" is a powerful novel about the complexities of gender and how that defines ourselves and our relationships with others. I would not recommend this be your first entry into the world of Margaret Atwood; I would suggest familiarizing oneself with her writing style before reading this one. To me, it was not as good as "The Handmaid's Tale", but still a powerful experience.
