Meet Me at the Museum by Anne Youngson

4.0

This book was like a warm hug on a cold winter's day.

In this epistolary novel (written as a series of letters between the characters), we get to learn about Tina Hopgood -an elderly woman in the UK, living a life she can’t remember choosing- and Anders Larsen  -a lonely museum curator in Denmark-. Their friendship blossoms through these letters and they end up helping each other in ways they couldn’t have imagined.

I don’t think this was a plot driven novel nor a romance (as some tags/marketing of the book would suggest). Instead, it was more of a slice of life where we get to witness a beautiful friendship and how, fundamentally, we are all alone and could use a caring friend.

Certain aspects of the writing kinda bugged me in places (some over the top caution and some repetitions) but overall it did have a nice balance of literary and daily language.

It took me a while to finish because I didn't want to rush it. Instead, I only read a couple "letters" each day. That way, I also felt more connected to the charterers, waiting for the next letter to arrive.

A raw, emotional tale of friendship and self discovery. Loved it.
