Call Us What We Carry: Poems by Amanda Gorman

emotional hopeful inspiring reflective fast-paced

5.0

This poetry collection was absolutely amazing and it felt very timely to revisit it during one of the biggest COVID surges recently. Amanda Gorman weaves together so many themes and mirrors the pandemic of 2020 with the pandemic of 1918 for the Spanish Flu in both sickness and social justice.

Additionally, this is my first time hearing of erasure poems and those were incredible and really hit home how so much hasn't changed across our history.

I listened to this as an audiobook and Amanda Gorman narrates it, and very much recommend it. She reads her work beautifully and it adds an entirely different dimension.
