The Night Caller

1.5/5 stars for The Night Caller by J.M. Hewitt.
I will argue that this book has a great premise- however, I didn’t really enjoy it that much. A detective with a troubled past is trying to solve the case of a serial killer in Manchester who pushes people into the canals. It seems interesting, although I found myself to be a bit bored. I didn’t really like the characters and felt that the story was a bit rushed.
The detective is the main character and I felt that there wasn’t enough character development provided for me to really connect with her. She basically follows a “hunch” about two serial killers that push people into the canals but spent most of the book talking with victim’s families and not really doing anything to solve the case.
I thought the twist was predictable and I was left with a lot of questions (that I didn’t really care to know the answer to because I just didn’t enjoy the book). This seems like a rather harsh review but as I said earlier, I think this book had a great premise. It just wasn’t right for me! I read a fair amount of police procedurals' and this one just didn’t live up in comparison.
