It Gets Better: Coming Out, Overcoming Bullying, and Creating a Life Worth Living by Dan Savage
5.0
As I wrote in my South Sound Book Review Council review (http://www.southsoundbrc.org/), every middle and high school library should have a copy of this book. So also should every public library. Just the presence of this book in a library is a signal that the building is (hopefully) a safe space for everyone.
At this point, though, It Gets Better is more than just a great message that we should promote. It's also a national phenomenon - a part (and not an insignificant one) of our changing collective paradigm. It Gets Better has made a difference. It has changed the world.
Already.
And it's only a couple years old.
Buy this book. Display this book. Read this book. And be touched by the stories and the way our world is changing. Becoming better.
It's not enough, but that doesn't make it untrue.
**Ivan Coyote wrote something here that I adored, but I'm not sure it'll show up below this review bc it's not technically by Dan Savage, so isn't associated with this book. Ivan said "Bullies are almost always outnumbered by the bullied. We just need to organize.”
