It would be so easy for a writer to take the concept of a character who has been maligned for aeons and have them be one note: either awful or self-hating/trying to prove they are nothing like their reputation. Saoirse Sorkova is a siren. And while I won’t spoil the plot here, I actually love that the author doesn’t shy away from who the character is and what she does. She does have choices to make and like a lot of us, especially when young, she has to lean into owning her agency. Into knowing how to wield her power. And trying to control our desires, instincts is something that everyone deals with. I really like Saoirse and her family. And I’m holding onto my thoughts about Hayes because he is in quite the difficult situation. Fingers crossed.
