A Girl Like Her
by Talia Hibbert
more like 3.5?? but rounded up to 4 because i love evan and ruth too much.
after reading get a life, chloe brown i had high hopes for talia hibbert’s other books, and i wasn’t let down! this book didn’t have quite the same emotional impact for me as chloe brown did, and the last quarter or so didn’t sparkle quite as much as the rest (all that exposition during ruth’s confrontation with daniel’s dad felt kind of abrupt and infodump-y, and from there on the rest felt a little rushed), but evan and ruth are too cute for words, and the supporting characters are great too. i wish we’d seen a little more of the town and how ruth interacted with it/how it interacted with ruth—i feel like a lot of that was just told to us and as a result it didn’t feel super powerful to me, and as someone who didn’t grow up in a small town, i wish i could’ve seen a little more of that. nevertheless this was a fun, spirited read, and i’m excited to read the other ravenswood books!
